Understanding Your Audiogram

Low Frequencies travel long distances, give us our perception of loudness, and vowel sounds in speech. Most background noise carries in low frequencies.

Hi Frequencies travel comparatively short distances, provide clarity, and consonant sounds in speech. These sounds tend to be drowned out by background noise for people with hearing loss.

Decibel scale is a logarithmic scale where the volume doubles with every six-decibel increase in sound (0dB is the avg. hearing of a child).

Dynamic range measures the lowest volume you can hear and the loudest volume you can tolerate. Reduced Dynamic range means you need the volume turned up to hear it, but you also may not be able to tolerate volumes as loud as you used to.
